How can a foundation in ethical philosophy arm us in practice? We cannot predict how we will behave beyond what is practiced. We can take steps to shape behavior by encouraging moral individualism and intertwining theory in our practice.
The education of students at the USNA is summed as combinations of theory and practice. The conference content directly reflected this exercise. We entered as practitioners, became enriched by philosophical thought and left as deepened practitioners.
The conference achieved a philosophical goal: injecting thought, idea, introspection, discourse, and motivating continued intellectual thought enduring well-past the conference duration.
We must practice ethical decision-making at all times, and practice by engaging in intellectual discourse and reflection. Together, we can found the future by way of questioning and developing comfort in the inconclusive.
